Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Fast-track your professional credentials based on your existing skills and work experience

What is the RPL Scheme?

The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a national certification mechanism designed by the Board of Applied Sciences and Technology (BAST) Islamabad. It formally evaluates, validates, and certifies skillsets, practical competence, and technical knowledge acquired through informal channels, self-study, on-the-job training, or work experience.

RPL operates on the core principle that learning happens everywhere, not just in traditional classrooms. By assessing your existing vocational skills against standardized occupational parameters, BAST helps individuals acquire legally recognized diplomas and certificates without undergoing years of redundant academic study.

Key Benefits of BAST RPL Validation

  • Career Acceleration: Bypass basic coursework and instantly qualify for certifications matching your current industry rank.
  • Professional Promotions: Meet HR requirements for technical diplomas or supervisor-level qualifications to unlock pay-scale raises.
  • Global Embassy Attestation: BAST issued RPL certificates are verifiable online, facilitating attestation for overseas job opportunities in the Middle East, Europe, and Canada.
  • Time and Cost Efficient: Drastically reduce the financial investment and time commitment required to earn a professional qualification.

How the RPL Process Works

The BAST evaluation board follows a rigorous 4-step quality assurance framework to assess candidates seeking RPL certification:

1

Portfolio Submission

Applicants submit documents proving their career timeline, including reference letters, employment history logs, detailed CVs, past training certificates, and project portfolios.

2

Competency Mapping

The BAST assessment desk maps the applicant's experience against the official course curriculum, ensuring the practical hours match or exceed course parameters.

3

Technical Interview / Panel Review

Candidates undergo a structured technical evaluation or video interview by our external assessors to verify core theoretical knowledge and practical familiarity with the trade.

4

Final Certification

Upon passing the review panel, the candidate is registered in the database, and a professional diploma (verifiable online via Serial/Registration number) is issued.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for an RPL diploma or certification from BAST, candidates must satisfy the following minimum benchmarks:

  • Work Experience: Minimum of 2 to 5 years of verifiable work experience in the relevant trade (depending on whether applying for a 1-year certificate or a 2/3-year diploma).
  • Age Requirement: Minimum age limit of 18 years at the time of application submission.
  • Basic Education: Relevant basic academic background (e.g., Matriculation or equivalent for basic diplomas, and Intermediate for advanced diplomas).
  • Documentation Checklist: Clear CNIC copy, employer experience letters, current resume, passport-sized photographs, and any prior relevant short-course credentials.
